Tottenham Boss Confirms Major Injury Boost Ahead Of Arsenal But 5 Could Miss Out

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed a major injury boost ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Arsenal this weekend but up to five other players could miss out

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to get back to winning ways when they make the sort trip across north London to take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.

Let’s start with the positive news and Pochettino confirmed that Harry Kane has been passed fit and is available for selection against the Gunners after recovering from an ankle injury.

Kane has been on the sidelines since suffering the injury against Sunderland in mid-September but the striker is now back in contention this weekend – although Pochettino has yet to decide whether he’ll start the England international on Sunday.

The Argentinean coach is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“Yes. He [Kane] is available for Sunday and I have to decide whether he will play from the start or on the bench but I am very happy with him.

“I think it’s important he is back and that he is able to help the team.”

Obviously it will come as a huge boost to Tottenham to have their star striker back in the squad to face Arsenal, even if he is only an option to bring off the bench in the second half.

However, there wasn’t such positive news on Toby Alderweireld as the Mirror claim that Pochettino confirmed that the centre-back has been ruled out of the trip to the Emirates after failing to recover from a knee injury that’s kept him out for a month.

Alderweireld suffered the injury against West Brom last month and will now sit out the Arsenal match this weekend, while he’s also been left out of the Belgian squad for their upcoming international’s.

There is also more bad news for Tottenham as Pochettino confirmed that Mousa Dembele is a doubt to face the Gunners after limping out of their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night.

Erik Lamela is also facing a late fitness test on a hip injury that kept him out of the Leverkusen game but Ben Davies has been ruled out and will miss the game along with Moussa Sissoko – who serves the final of his three-game domestic ban.
