[Video Goals] Basel 1-4 Arsenal: Perez Bags Hat-Trick As Gunners Snatch Top Spot

By on December 6, 2016

Lucas Perez scored a hat-trick as Arsenal thrashed Basel 4-1 in Switzerland to snatch top spot in their Champions League group.

A much changed line-up started brightly and opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Alexis Sanchez found Kieran Gibbs with a superb ball and the left-back squared to Lucas Perez to tapped home for 0-1.

We doubled our advantage just 8 minutes later and it was almost a carbon copy of the first goal as Kieran Gibbs got in down the left and Perez was on hand to tap home after the defender’s initial shot was well saved.

The Spaniard then completed his hat-trick just after half time as he raced on to a Gibbs pass to fire in to the bottom corner with his weaker right foot to make it 3-0.

We continued to push forward and scored a lovely team goal for the fourth as Alexis Sanchez fed Mesut Ozil with a superb ball before the German’s cut-back found Alex Iwobi who made no mistake from close range.

Basel grabbed a consolation when Doumbia took advantage of a sloppy ball from Rob Holding to flick the ball over David Ospina for 4-1 in the 77th minute but we cruised home to secure the three points.

With PSG surprisingly being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Ludogorets, it means we finish top of Group A and will hopefully avoid some of the big boys in the knockout stage draw.
