Transfer News: Arsenal Agree Terms With Man Utd Target Ahead Of Mega Summer Move

Arsenal look to have stolen a march on Manchester United after agreeing personal terms with Kostas Manolas ahead of a potential £47m summer switch from Roma

It’s January deadline day and it’s expected to be another busy time with clubs battling to get last minute deals over the line so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Kostas Manolas….

Arsenal look to have stolen a march on Manchester United after agreeing personal terms with Kostas Manolas ahead of a potential £47m summer switch from Roma, according to a report in the Express.

Manolas has developed in to one of the best centre-backs in Europe since joining Roma from Olympiacos in the summer of 2014 and he’s constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Manchester United were showing a keen interest in the Greek international with Jose Mourinho seemingly eyeing the 25-year-old as a long-term partner for Eric Bailly at Old Trafford.

The paper also suggested that Arsenal were still tracking Manolas after quoting his agent, John Evangelopoulos, as confirming that the Gunners had seen a £35m offer knocked back by Roma last summer.

However, it looks as though Arsenal have now moved a huge step closer to landing the defender as the Express are citing a report coming from WhoScored that claims the north Londoners have now agreed personal terms with Manolas.

The report indicates that Roma are now ready to sell the centre-back at the end of the season after failing to agree a new contract extension and Arsenal are now being tipped to complete a £47m deal this summer.

Many Gooners may be elated with this news as Manolas is an excellent defender but I have my doubts over the validity of the claims in the Express newspaper as I find it difficult to believe Arsenal are planning to spend that sort of money on another centre-back so soon after paying £35m for Shkodran Mustafi.

The German international has settled well in England following his move from Valencia and has formed an excellent partnership with Laurent Koscielny – who recently committed his future to the Emirates by signing a new contract.

Per Mertesacker has also recently extended his deal while Arsene Wenger has the likes of Gabriel as well as impressive youngsters like Rob Holding and Calum Chambers to call upon in the middle of defence, so I don’t see any need for the Gunners to spend £47m on Manolas.

Therefore, if Roma are prepared to sell the Greek star this summer then I think it’s far more likely he’ll end up at United or even someone like Chelsea or Manchester City if Manolas decides to come to the Premier League.
