[Video Goals] Chelsea 3-1 Arsenal: Blues Go 12 Clear As Gunners Misfire Once Again

Chelsea have taken a huge step closer to reclaiming the Premier League title after beating Arsenal 3-1 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Chelsea have taken a huge step closer to reclaiming the Premier League title after beating Arsenal 3-1 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

It was a lively start by both sides but it was Chelsea who opened the scoring as Marcos Alonso headed home from close range after Diego Costa’s initial effort came back off the bar – although replays showed the Blues defender caught the Arsenal man in the face with an elbow but the goal was allowed to stand.

The visitors missed a great chance to level things up when Gabriel put a free header straight at Thibaut Courtois and Mesut Ozil also wasted a decent chance to make it 1-1 just before half time.

And Arsenal were punished shortly after the break when Eden Hazard jinked his way through the Gunners side before chipping over Petr Cech for 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

It was 3-0 shortly before the end as Petr Cech gave his former club a real gift after sending his clearance straight to the feet of substitute Cesc Fabregas and the midfielder had the simple task of chipping in to the empty net.

Arsenal managed to grab a stoppage time equaliser as Olivier Giroud headed home from a Nacho Monreal cross but Chelsea held out to secure a vital 3-1 win.

The victory means that Chelsea have now extended their lead at the top of the table to 12 points so that must surely end Arsenal’s title hopes for another season.
