The Chelsea players have been celebrating on social media and declaring that ‘London is Blue’ after they beat London rivals Arsenal 3-1 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
Chelsea got off to the perfect start as Marcos Alonso headed home from close range to make it 1-0 in the 13th minute – although Arsenal were incensed that the goal was allowed to stand after Alonso caught Hector Bellerin and knocked him unconscious with a stray elbow as they challenged for the ball.
Eden Hazard then doubled the Blues lead with a superb solo goal before an error from Petr Cech presented the ball to Cesc Fabregas and he made no mistake to make it 3-0 against his former club.
Arsenal scored a consolation in stoppage time via an Olivier Giroud header but Chelsea eased to an impressive 3-1 win that has taken them a huge step closer to reclaiming the Premier League title.
The win has left Antonio Conte’s side 12 points clear at the top of the table [although Spurs are set to cut that gap to 9 points with a win over Middlesbrough] while it’s all but ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning the title for another year.
Understandably the Chelsea players have been in buoyant mood and Marcos Alonso, Kurt Zouma, Willian and Cesar Azpilicueta have all trolled Arsenal by declaring on social media that ‘London is Blue’.
Thibaut Courtois, Michy Batshuayi, N’Golo Kante and Pedro have also posted celebratory messages on Twitter after Chelsea tightened their grip at the top of the table.
