Arsenal Join Chelsea In Plotting Audacious Swoop For £77m Striker

Arsenal have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero ahead of a potential £77m move away from the Etihad this summer

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Arsenal join Chelsea in the chase for Sergio Aguero…

Arsenal have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero ahead of a potential £77m move away from the Etihad this summer, according to a report in the Express.

Aguero has been a huge hit since joining City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 with the Argentinean international scoring 154 goals and providing 46 assists in his 234 appearances to help the club lift two Premier League titles.

However, despite netting 18 goals in his 26 games so far this campaign, Aguero has found himself dropped to the bench following the arrival of Brazilian sensational Gabriel Jesus last month.

The 19-year-old has scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists in his 4 appearances so it’s going to be difficult for Pep Guardiola to leave him out any time soon leaving Aguero’s future hanging in the balance.

Obviously a player of his quality isn’t going to be happy sitting on the bench and while City are still keen for him to remain at the Etihad, it’s no wonder that several clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on his situation.

The Express are citing a report coming from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato that claims Arsenal have now joined the chase for Aguero’s signature as the north Londoners look to finally land a world class striker.

Arsene Wenger has missed out on a number of top class finishers over the years and with doubts continuing over the long-term future of Alexis Sanchez, it appears the Frenchman is eyeing an audacious move for Augero.

However, Arsenal aren’t the only club keen as the Express claim that Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid are also after Aguero so it’s hotting up to be a fierce transfer battle between some of Europe’s most powerful clubs.

Chelsea are likely to be eyeing Aguero as a potential replacement for Diego Costa amid on-going speculation that he could still leave Stamford Bridge in the summer after falling out with Antonio Conte last month.

No doubt Aguero would be a sensational signing for either Arsenal or Chelsea but understandably City are reluctant to sell and the Express claim it would take an offer of £77m to persuade them to cash in.

That sort of money would shatter Arsenal and Chelsea’s transfer records but players like Aguero don’t come on the market too often so I’m sure fans of both clubs will begging their managers to splash out on the 28-year-old South American hitman.
