Liverpool To Battle Arsenal Over £90m Duo As Klopp Eyes 6 Summer Signings
Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out with Arsenal over Alexandre Lacazette and Naby Keita as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in up to six new players this summer
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Liverpool are gearing up for a busy summer…
Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out with Arsenal over the signing of Alexandre Lacazette and Naby Keita as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in up to six new players this summer, according to the Mirror.
The Reds have seen a once promising campaign derailed since the turn of the year with the Merseysiders falling 14 points behind leaders Chelsea as well as crashing out of both domestic cup competitions.
It looks like Klopp knows he needs to overhaul his squad to add some much-needed strength in depth as the Mirror claim he’s planning to bring in five or six new signings this summer – if they qualify for the Champions League.
The newspaper states that Liverpool have already began drawing-up a list of targets which includes Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.
Klopp needs to address his striking situation with a replacement for Daniel Sturridge needed as the England international is expected to leave Anfield after a disappointing campaign.
Once Sturridge is moved on, Liverpool will then be able to press ahead with their attempts to sign Lacazette but the Mirror claim that they’ll face stiff competition from Arsenal to land the prolific hitman.
Despite doubts over Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates, it looks like he’s still planning ahead for next season and Lacazette is being eyed as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
The French international is enjoying another excellent season at Lyon having scored 27 goals in his 31 appearances in all competitions so far and has notched at least 20 goals in each of his last four seasons.
The report says that Liverpool representatives have already made contact with Lyon to discuss a potential deal but the French club are expected to hold out for a fee in the region of £60m.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Arsenal will be prepared to pay that kind of money but it looks as though the top four rivals are set to battle it out over another sought-after player in Keita.
The midfielder is enjoying a superb campaign at Red Bull Leipzig and has emerged as one of the hottest properties in German football with several clubs throughout Europe being linked so Liverpool and Arsenal will face plenty of competition for his signature.
Neither club will want to enter a bidding war and the Sun claim it will take around £30m to persuade Leipzig to cash in this summer with the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid also understood to be keen.
Klopp knows he needs to add to his midfield options if the club are to compete in the Champions League next season and Keita would be an excellent addition if they could win the race for his signature.
As well as a new midfielder and striker, I also expect Liverpool to be in the market for another goalkeeper, left-back and centre-back this summer as Klopp continues to overhaul his squad.
