Chelsea Join Arsenal & Liverpool In Race To Sign £70m Attacker

Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Arsenal and Liverpool over the signing of Marco Reus but will have to pay £70m to land the Borussia Dortmund attacker

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Chelsea join Arsenal and Liverpool in the chase for Marco Reus….

Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Arsenal and Liverpool over the signing of Marco Reus but will have to pay £70m to land the Borussia Dortmund attacker, according to a report in the Express.

Reus has developed in to one of the best attackers in Europe having scored 82 goals and provided a further 60 assists in his 180 appearances since joining Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012.

The 27-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League with the Express reporting in January that Arsenal had opened talks with Dortmund over a potential deal to sign Reus at the end of the season.

The newspaper now says that Liverpool are also keen on the attacker while Chelsea have also joined the race for his signature so it looks like three of England’s biggest clubs are set to battle it out this summer.

Despite doubts over his own future at the Emirates, it seems Arsene Wenger is still making plans for next season and the Arsenal boss may be eyeing Reus as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez with the Chilean international tipped to leave following a reported bust-up with the French boss.

Liverpool are expected to be extremely active in the transfer market this summer as Jurgen Klopp continues to rebuild his squad at Anfield and Reus is the type of top class player the Merseysiders need to target if they’re to become serious title challengers.

Chelsea don’t have that problem as they are storming their way to the Premier League title, however, Antonio Conte is still keen to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and it appears Reus is on his radar.

The German forward is approaching the final two years of his contract but the Express suggest that Dortmund are still determined to receive a huge transfer fee and have made it clear they want £70m for his signature.

We’ll have to wait and see whether any of the English trio will be prepared to meet that figure but Reus is a world class talent who’s capable of playing on the wing or through the middle as a striker so he’d be a superb addition to any squad.

The only main concern may be his injury record as Reus has a history of injury problems and the player only recently returned from a groin problem that kept him out for over six months so that could deter the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool from paying over the odds for his signature.
