Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs who’ve made contract offers to Sead Kolasinac as they battle to sign the Schalke left-back on a free transfer this summer, according to the Sun.
Kolasinac has developed in to one of the best attacking full-backs in German football over the past few years since being converted from a central midfielder by boss Jens Keller.
The Bosnian international’s current contract at Schalke expires in June and he’s been free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January after failing to agree terms over an extension.
It looks like the 23-year-old could be heading to England as the Sun claim that Arsenal and Liverpool have now put forward contract offers to the defender in the hope of snapping him up on a free transfer this summer.
Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates is in doubt following a disappointing campaign but the Frenchman will have to undertake a huge rebuilding job if he decides to stay beyond the end of the season.
A new left-back is likely to be on the agenda as Kieran Gibbs is expected to leave in search of regular first team football and it looks like Wenger has identified Kolasinac as a potential replacement.
Liverpool’s need for a new left-back is clear for all to see as James Milner has been forced to fill-in for the majority of the season after Alberto Moreno fell out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds coach is widely expected to bring in a new first choice left-back this summer and Klopp will know Kolasinac well from his time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.
He’d be a superb signing for Arsenal or Liverpool on a free transfer, however, they’ll face stiff competition as the Sun claims that AC Milan, Roma, Juventus and Manchester City are also in the race to sign Kolasinac this summer.
It’s going to be interesting to see where the Bosnian star ends up but Champions League football is likely to play a key role in the defender’s decision so that’s only going to make finishing in the top four even more important for the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and City.
