Man Utd & Chelsea Step-Up Interest In £30m Star, Player Keen On Move

Chelsea and Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Roma defender Antonio Rudiger ahead of a potential £30m move this summer

Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd and Chelsea step-up their interest in Antonio Rudiger…

Chelsea and Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Roma defender Antonio Rudiger ahead of a potential £30m move this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Rudiger made his name in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart before joining Roma in the summer of 2015 and he’s continued to develop his reputation as one of the brightest young defenders in Europe.

The 24-year-old has become a key part of Luciano Spalletti’s starting eleven since recovering from a cruciate ligament injury back in October and has helped Roma maintain their title challenge in Serie A.

However, the defender’s future in Italy is in serious doubt as he’s been the subject of vile racist abuse from both the Lazio fans and Lazio defender Senad Lulic in recent months.

The Daily Mail claim that Rudiger has been left deeply upset by the incidents and is now seeking a move to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Understandably, there is no shortage of interest and the newspaper says that Man Utd and Chelsea have stepped-up their pursuits by sending scouts to watch him in action for Germany against England tonight.

An impressive performance could persuade the English duo to formalise their interest but they better be prepared to dig deep if they do as the Daily Mail suggest Roma will demand £30m for his signature.

Antonio Conte is expected to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and the Italian could be eyeing Rudiger as a long-term replacement for John Terry.

The Blues coach knows the defender well from his time managing in Italy, however, Chelsea could face stiff competition from United as Jose Mourinho is also gearing up for another busy summer in the transfer market.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Rudiger would be an excellent signing for either Chelsea or United and the fact he can play at right-back as well as centre-back should make him an appealing addition to any squad.
