Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with James Rodriguez…
Liverpool are confident of signing £65m-rated Chelsea and Manchester United target James Rodriguez this summer after holding talks with the Real Madrid attacker’s agent, according to a report in the Metro.
Rodriguez secured a move to the Bernabeu after starring at the 2014 World Cup but his future is in serious doubt as he’s struggling to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven this season.
The Colombian international has started just 7 La Liga games so far this campaign with a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order so it’s no surprise that he’s been strongly tipped to find a new club this summer.
The 25-year-old’s situation has alerted clubs here in the Premier League with the Metro claiming that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all show a keen interest in luring Rodriguez to England.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is expected to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League while Jose Mourinho is also gearing up for a busy summer as the United manager looks to build a squad capable of sustaining a title challenge next year and Rodriguez appears to be on their radar.
However, it looks as though Liverpool are now in pole position as the Metro are citing a report from the Mirror that claims the Merseysiders believe they can secure Rodriguez’s signature after holding talks with his agent.
The newspaper suggests that the Liverpool have been encouraged that the South American attacker will move to Anfield as long as they qualify for the Champions League next season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and the German coach is ready to push on with his rebuilding job this summer as long as they can cling on to that all-important top four spot.
Rodriguez is the caliber of player Liverpool need to target if they are to establish themselves as a European powerhouse once again and I think he’d be an excellent signing for the Anfield club if they could pull off a deal.
The report says that Madrid are happy to sell Rodriguez and have already began looking for replacements, however, the Spanish giants will demand £65m for the Colombian’s signature.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool will be prepared to meet that asking price or if the likes of Chelsea and United will step-up their interest to try and derail their attempts to sign Rodriguez, but I’d love to see him plying his trade here in England next season so hopefully one of the trio will be able to get a deal agreed.
