Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Dejan Lovren is keen to see Ivan Perisic join Liverpool…
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has urged the club to beat Manchester United to the signature of £35m-rated Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic this summer, according to the Mirror.
Perisic has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League after enjoying a solid season with Inter that’s seen him score 9 goals and provide a further 6 assists to help the San Siro giants challenge for the top four in Serie A.
The Mirror reported last week that Liverpool are among the clubs showing a keen interest in luring the attacker to England but the Merseysiders face stiff competition from Manchester United with Jose Mourinho also hoping to take him to Old Trafford.
Lovren has now urged Liverpool to do all they can to beat United to his Croatian team-mates signature after declaring that Perisic is a quality player who would be warmly welcomed if he was to make the switch to Anfield.
The centre-back is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“The arrival of a player like Perisic at Liverpool would be the best,”
“He is a quality player. At Liverpool, all the players would welcome him with open arms. Obviously I do not know if it is true.
“What I can say is that he has exceptional football skills, knowledge and a higher than average quality.”
The report suggests that Perisic would cost around £35m, which shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for either Liverpool or United to afford, especially given the new TV deal kicks in soon.
Perisic is predominantly a left-winger but he’s also capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so he’d be a very useful signing for United or Liverpool if either clubs managed to get a deal agreed.
Jurgen Klopp knows the attacker well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund and he’d provide quality depth in attack along with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
However, United are expected to be heavily active in the transfer market this summer, especially if they qualify for the Champions League, and Jose Mourinho is seemingly keen to add Perisic to his attacking options.
