Liverpool are stepping-up their pursuit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and aren’t being put off by Arsenal’s £35m valuation of the England midfielder, according to the Telegraph.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at the Emirates is in serious doubt as he’s approaching the final year of his contract and Arsenal are yet to hold formal discussions over an extension.
The future’s of Arsene Wenger, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been the focus for the Gunners hierarchy in recent months with the likes of Oxilade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs put on the back-burner.
The uncertainty has led to speculation that The Ox could be on the move this summer and the midfielder is reportedly also concerned by his lack of progress since moving to north London from Southampton in 2011.
The 23-year-old has failed to live-up to his potential at Arsenal and is yet to fully establish himself as a first team regular having made just 12 Premier League starts so far this campaign.
Arsene Wenger has always publicly maintained that he wants Oxlade-Chamberlain to stay at the club but it looks as though Jurgen Klopp is now hoping to take advantage of the uncertain situation.
The Telegraph claim that Liverpool are now stepping-up their attempts to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain and haven’t been put off by Arsenal’s £35m asking price for the midfielder.
Klopp is gearing-up for a busy summer as he looks to further strengthen his squad ahead of Liverpool’s likely return to the Champions League and Oxlade-Chamberlain would add to a strong English contingent at Anfield if he was to make the move north.
His versatility would also appeal to Klopp as the England international is able to play anywhere across the midfield positions but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be willing to do business with a direct rival.
Wenger is already under huge pressure following a disappointing campaign and tensions among the disgruntled fanbase would only heighten if they agreed to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool this summer.
