Man Utd Team News: Duo Ruled Out But Mourinho Confirms 2 Others Will Return

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that two key men will miss Sunday’s trip to Burnley but two others are set to return to the starting eleven.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Manchester-United

Manchester United will look to continue their push for the top four when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update and the Red Devils boss has confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo will miss the game.

Ibrahimovic was forced off just minutes in to extra-time during United’s Europa League win over Anderlecht last night after falling awkwardly on his knee.

Mourinho has refused to speculate over how long the striker will be out for but he’s certain to miss Sunday’s game so the United boss has called on Wayne Rooney to step-up while he’s also hopeful Juan Mata can make a return to action from his groin injury before the end of the season.

Rojo was stretchered off in the first half during United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht last night and with Phil Jones still nursing a toe injury and Chris Smalling recovering from a knee problem, it leaves Mourinho will limited options in defence.

The Red Devils boss is also concerned that Eric Bailly has played six matches in a row so the Portuguese coach has hinted he may call on reserve team captain Axel Tuanzebe to fill-in at the back.

Ander Herrera Man Utd 2016

Mourinho has better options in midfield as Ander Herrera is set to return to the starting eleven after not being risked against Anderlecht as a booking would have ruled him out of the semi-final.

Ashley Young is also set for a recall after being left out last night having impressed during the 2-0 win over Chelsea last weekend.

Mourinho told the clubs website:

“Eric Bailly has played six matches in a row – 540 minutes in a row. We lost Marcos Rojo, we don’t have Jones, we don’t have Smalling.

“We are in trouble and, now, we lose Zlatan too but, in attack, we have options: Rooney is coming and let’s see if Mata can also return before the end of the season. Let’s see what happens.

“Herrera plays [against Burnley]. He didn’t play on Thursday – one yellow card and he would have missed the semi-finals. I was thinking about him and [fellow substitute Marouane] Fellaini both at the same time but, because I made a change with Marcos Rojo, I couldn’t do that and he didn’t play.

“So Herrera is fresh to play. Ashley Young is fresh to play and who else? Nobody else is fresh to play! Now we need absolutely everyone and I don’t have to think about Axel Tuanzebe going to the Under-20 World Cup in Korea because maybe Axel has to come now. We need everybody.”

United head in to the weekend action sitting fifth in the Premier League table and six points adrift of Liverpool but Mourinho’s men hold two games in hand so they’ll want to keep the pressure on their rivals with a win at Turf Moor.
