Man Utd Ready To Hijack Chelsea’s Move After Holding Talks Over £50m Hitman

Man Utd are ready to hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Alvaro Morata after Jose Mourinho made contact with Real Madrid about the strikers availability

Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd have stepped-up their interest in Alvaro Morata…

Manchester United are ready to hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Alvaro Morata after Jose Mourinho made contact with Real Madrid about the strikers availability, according to a report in the Mirror.

Mourinho is in the market for striking reinforcements this summer after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a career threatening knee ligament injury while Wayne Rooney is also expected to move-on at the end of the season.

It means United are likely to sign two new strikers this summer and the Mirror are citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Mourinho has now stepped-up his interest in Morata.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact since rejoining Madrid last summer following two years with Juventus with Karim Benzema the preferred option up front.

Morata has still managed to score an impressive 17 goals in his 15 starts in all competitions but he’s reportedly growing tired of his bit-part role and could look for a way out of the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

The Mirror’s report says that Mourinho has made contact with his former club to hold discussions about Morata’s availability as he looks to lure the striker to Old Trafford this summer.

The news will come as a concern to Chelsea as they too have been strongly linked with Morata with the Express reporting just last week that the Blues were closing-in on a deal to sign the £50m-rated hitman at the end of the season.

The newspaper suggested that Morata had reached a verbal agreement with Antonio Conte to be reunited with him at Stamford Bridge having worked together during their time at Juventus.

Chelsea are expected to further strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and a new frontman could be required amid on-going doubts over the future of Diego Costa.

Morata would be a superb replacement for the Brazilian-born striker but news of United’s interest could throw a spanner in the works as they’ve got the financial muscle to match anything Chelsea can put on the table.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Morata would be an excellent addition for either Chelsea or United so I’d love to see him playing in the Premier League next season.
