Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are after Chelsea attacker Willian…
Manchester United are ready to table a £35m bid for Willian and tempt the Chelsea attacker with a lucrative £200,000-a-week contract, according to a report in the Express.
Mourinho is gearing up for another busy summer in the transfer market as he tries to build a squad capable of being genuine title challengers next season while they’ll also hope to make an assault on the Champions League if they qualify for the competition.
The Portuguese coach knows he needs to further strengthen his attacking options as a lack of goals has been an issue this season and it looks as though he’s ready to raid one of his former clubs.
The Express are citing a report from the Daily Star that claims Mourinho has identified Willian as a prime target and is ready to test Chelsea’s resolve with a £35m offer for the attacker this summer.
The Blues are unlikely to be keen on doing business with a direct rival but United will be confident they can pull off a deal given they persuaded Chelsea to sell them Juan Mata in 2014.
Mourinho signed Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala during his time at Stamford Bridge and he played a key role in helping Chelsea win the title in 2014 and was named as their Player of the Year in 2015.
However, the Brazilian international has fallen out-of-favour under Antonio Conte with the Italian coach preferring Pedro alongside Eden Hazard and Diego Costa in his attack.
Willian was handed a rare start in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend and scored twice during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Tottenham but he was immediately dropped back to the bench for Tuesday night’s win over Southampton.
Mourinho is now seemingly ready to offer Willian the chance to resurrect his career at Old Trafford and the report indicates that United will tempt the 28-year-old with a lucrative deal worth £200,000-a-week as well as the promise of regular first team football.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Willian would be a very useful addition to the United squad if Mourinho is successful with his raid on Chelsea as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions and obviously has plenty of experience here in England.
