Liverpool are refusing to give up on Isco and are ready to battle-it-out with Chelsea over the signature of the Real Madrid attacker this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Isco has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu in recent months having struggled to hold down a regular starting spot since joining the club from Malaga in 2013.

The 25-year-old has started just 16 La Liga games so far this season and it’s led to speculation the attacking midfielder may look for a fresh start this summer with a move to England touted as a possibility.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Isco but it looked as though the Merseysiders were set to miss out after it emerged earlier this week that he was close to agreeing a new contract extension with Madrid.

However, the Mirror are citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Jurgen Klopp isn’t ready to give up his pursuit just yet and remains keen to try and lure Isco to Anfield before he commits to the Spanish giants.

Klopp is expected to further strengthen his squad this summer, especially if the Reds secure a top four finish in the Premier League, and Isco is the quality of player they need to sign if they’re to become genuine title challengers.

The Spanish international would offer top class competition for the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane and the fact he can play anywhere across the attacking positions means he’d give Klopp plenty of options.

However, the report indicates that Liverpool will face stiff competition from Chelsea if Isco does decide to leave Madrid as the Blues are also reportedly keen on signing the talented attacker.

Antonio Conte is set to further strengthen his squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and Isco could be viewed as a potential replacement for Willian – who’s being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Isco is a terrific player and he’d be a superb addition for Liverpool or Chelsea if they were able to get a deal agreed.
