Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea close in on a deal for Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko…

Chelsea are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Manchester United target Tiemoue Bakayoko after holding fresh talks with the Monaco midfielder, according to a report in the Daily Star.

Bakayoko has developed in to one of the hottest talents in Europe since joining Monaco from Rennes in 2014 having played a key role in helping them reach the semi finals of the Champions League and stay on course to reclaiming the Ligue 1 title this season.

The 22-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League with reports in recent weeks strongly linking both Chelsea and Manchester United with the powerful midfielder.

The Mirror reported last month that United were ready to launch a £35m bid for Bakayoko’s signature after Jose Mourinho identified him as a potential long-term replacement for Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

However, Chelsea have always been touted as the front-runners and the Daily Star are now citing a report coming out of Italy from Calciomercato that claims the Blues are close to securing a deal.

The newspaper says that Chelsea have been locked in talks with both Bakayoko and Monaco in recent days and that a deal is now on the verge of completion that would see the midfielder head to West London this summer.

Antonio Conte is looking to further strengthen his squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and Bakayoko has long been mentioned as being among the Italian coaches top targets.

If the French international does end up moving to Stamford Bridge, he will form a devastating partnership alongside N’Golo Kante next season – although his arrival may cast doubt over the future of Nemanja Matic.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop and I’m sure United won’t have given up hope of landing Bakayoko just yet but whoever does end up winning the race for his signature will have got their hands on a terrific player.
