Antoine Griezmann is open to the idea of joining Manchester United this summer but a deal will cost the Red Devils in the region of £155m, according to the Daily Mail via the Express.

Jose Mourinho is gearing up for another busy summer in the transfer market and a new top class striker is now a priority after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s career was put in jeopardy following a double cruciate knee ligament injury.

With Wayne Rooney also tipped to leave Old Trafford after falling out-of-favour, Mourinho desperately needs to strengthen his attacking options and Griezmann has long been touted as his prime target.

The Express are citing a report coming from the Daily Mail that claims United are expected to meet the French international’s buyout clause – which will be worth at least £76m – at the end of the season.

It would then be down to the Red Devils to agree personal terms and the newspaper says Griezmann is demanding a whopping £300,000-a-week over the course of a five-year deal.

That kind of money would make the 26-year-old the highest paid player in the Premier League and when combined with the transfer fee, it would make the deal worth close to £155m.

United proved with the signing of Paul Pogba that they are prepared to spend record figures to sign their top targets so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they agreed to meet Griezmann’s demands, and they are one of the few clubs who could afford to do so.

Getting’s Rooney and Ibrahimovic’s huge wages off the books would also free-up funds to allow United to afford Griezmann’s reported demands so I don’t see the financial aspect as being a stumbling block over any potential move.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Griezmann would be a sensational signing if United could pull it off as he’s one of the true world class strikers in Europe right now.

The Frenchman has fired 25 goals and provided another 11 assists to help Atletico Madrid reach the semi-finals of the Champions League so he’d certainly offer a much-needed goal threat at Old Trafford next season.
