Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Tottenham are linked with Jean Michaël Seri…
Arsenal and Tottenham officials held talks with the agent of Nice midfielder Jean Michaël Seri last week ahead of a possible £20m move this summer, according to the Guardian.
Seri made is name in Portugal before joining Nice from Paços Ferreira in 2015 and he’s blossomed in to one of the best central midfielders in Ligue 1 this season.
The 25-year-old has played a key role in helping Nice mount a surprise title challenge with last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain moving them to within three points of the French giants.
Seri’s performances at the heart of the Nice team have caught the attention of clubs here in England as the Guardian claim that Arsenal and Tottenham have both expressed their interest in signing him this summer after regularly scouting him.
The newspaper says that representatives from the North London duo held talks with Seri’s agent in the capital last week where they discussed a potential move to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Arsene Wenger is expected to extend his stay at the Emirates and oversee a squad overhaul with central midfield a particular area of concern so Seri could be viewed as a potential long-term replacement for the likes of Santi Cazorla.
Mauricio Pochettino is also gearing up for an important summer as the Tottenham boss needs to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and Seri is seemingly on his radar.
The Guardian claim that the Ivory Coast international has a £33m buyout clause in his contract but as he has just two years remaining on his current deal, Nice are understood to be willing to do business at £20m.
That sort of money shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the likes of Arsenal or Spurs, especially with the new TV kicking in, so a move to England could be on the cards this summer.
However, the London pair will face stiff competition as the newspaper states that PSG and Barcelona are also tracking the midfielder so it looks like there is going to be a fierce battle over Seri’s signature over the coming weeks.
