Liverpool will be looking to cement their position in the top four when they take on Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.

The Reds boss has confirmed that Philippe Coutinho could be back in contention for a starting spot this weekend after returning to light training on Thursday.

Coutinho was forced off during the early stages of Monday night’s win over Watford after suffering a dead leg following a heavy tackle. The playmaker tried to continue after receiving treatment but he was eventually forced off.

However, the Brazilian international returned to light training at Melwood yesterday and while Klopp says he can’t be sure yet, it looks ‘positive’ that the attacker will be available on Sunday.

However, there was no fresh news regarding the fitness of Jordan Henderson and the midfielder continues to be ruled out with an on-going foot injury that’s hampered him for several weeks.

Henderson hasn’t featured since mid-February due to the problem and the England international is now facing a race against time to play again this season.

Mourinho told reporters:

In other team news, Adam Lallana is pushing for a start after making a successful injury comeback having replaced Coutinho in the 13th minute at Vicarage Road on Monday.

The England international had missed Liverpool’s previous five games due to a thigh injury he sustained while on England duty in March but he could now be restored to the side on Sunday.

Daniel Sturridge is also pushing for a rare start up front after making his own injury comeback against Watford having recovered from a hip problem, but it remains to be seen whether Klopp will stick with Divock Origi through the middle.

Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting third in the Premier League table and three points ahead of Man City – who have a game in hand – so the Merseysiders can tighten their grip on the top four with another victory on Sunday.
