Liverpool vs Southampton Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Prediction
Liverpool take on Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Here is a preview with team news, line-ups, betting tips and predicted score
Liverpool will be looking to cement their position in the top four when they take on Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds tightened their grip on third place after beating Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road last Monday with Emre Can scoring a stunning overhead kick to secure a vital win.
With fifth-placed Manchester United travelling to sixth-placed Arsenal tomorrow, Liverpool know this is the perfect opportunity to put one hand on Champions League qualification if they can beat Southampton.
However, the Saints have become something of a bogey team for the Merseysiders this season with Ronald Koeman’s men beating Liverpool over a two-legged EFL Cup semi-final earlier this year as well as holding them to a draw in the reverse fixture.
Philippe Coutinho is expected to feature after resuming full training having been forced off during the win at Watford with a dead leg.
Adam Lallana is pushing for a start after making a successful return from a thigh injury last week and he could come in to the midfield tomorrow.
Daniel Sturridge is also back in contention to start after overcoming a hip injury but Divock Origi could retain his place up front.
Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson continue to be sidelined for the Reds, along with long-term injury victim Danny Ings.
Southampton could call upon Charlie Austin after he recovered from a shoulder injury that he suffered way back in December.
However, Virgil van Dijk remains out as he won’t play again this season due to a serious foot injury.
Liverpool 2-1 Southampton: The Reds have been grinding out results in recent weeks and they know how big a game this is in their quest for Champions League football. Southampton can be a dangerous side on their day but they have little left to play for and I think Liverpool are going to do enough to edge this one.
