[Video Goals] Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd: Welbeck On Target As Gunners Maintain Top 4 Hopes

By on May 7, 2017

Arsenal maintained their hopes of finishing in the top four after beating rivals Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.

Aaron Ramsey came closest to opening the scoring in the first half as his effort was well saved by David De Gea while Petr Cech did well to smother a Wayne Rooney striker following a sloppy pass by Rob Holding.

The deadlock was finally broken shortly after half-time and there was a real element of fortune about the goal as Granit Xhaka’s speculative long-range effort deflected off Ander Herrera and over De Gea for 1-0.

Arsenal then doubled their lead just two minutes later as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did superbly down the right to send in a pin-point cross and Danny Welbeck headed home against his former club for 2-0 in the 57th minute.

United had no real response so Arsenal eased to a 2-0 win that sees them close to within just two points of United with a game in hand while the Gunners can cut the gap on Liverpool to just a point if they win their two games in hand on the Merseysiders.
