Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Riyad Mahrez wants to leave Leicester City…
Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Riyad Mahrez with the £30m-rated attacker looking to leave Leicester City this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Mahrez played a key role in helping Leicester win the title last season with his 17 goals and 10 assists proving crucial in their shock success while he was also named as the PFA Player of the Year.
The 26-year-old snubbed interest from a whole host of top clubs last summer to sign a new deal at the King Power after promising then manager Claudio Ranieri that he’d stay for at least one more season.
Like the majority of his team mates, Mahrez has struggled to replicate the kind of stunning form that saw them lift the title and now it seems he’s ready to seek a new challenge this summer.
The Telegraph claim that Mahrez is set to tell the Foxes he wants to leave and expects the Leicester chiefs to honour an agreement they struck last year and agree to sell him at the end of the season.
The Algerian international has still shown glimpses of brilliance this campaign with 10 goals and 7 assists to his name so he’ll still have plenty of top clubs showing a keen interest in his services.
Among others, the Telegraph claim that Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are ready to fight-it-out over Mahrez this summer with Leicester expected to demand upwards of £30m for the attacker.
Arsenal were strongly linked with Mahrez last summer and it seems the north Londoners are ready to renew their interest as they try to build a squad capable of putting in a genuine title challenge next year.
The newspaper says that Spurs are also set to renew their interest after seeing an enquiry for Mahrez knocked back in January as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Despite being on the verge of clinching the title, Chelsea also need to add to their squad this summer as they too prepare for a return to the Champions League and Antonio Conte is eyeing Mahrez as a potential replacement if they sell Willian.
It’s going to be an interesting battle between three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs and Mahrez would be a superb addition if they could get him back to the scintillating form we saw from him last season.
