Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Kieran Tierney responds to links with Chelsea and Man Utd…
Celtic star Kieran Tierney has admitted he’s flattered by interest from Chelsea and Manchester United amid speculation the defender could be heading to the Premier League this summer, according to the Mirror.
Tierney has been with Celtic his entire career having come through their youth ranks and has become an established part of Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven this season after breaking in to the squad in 2015.
The 19-year-old has been virtually ever-present and caught the eye of several clubs following a superb performance against Manchester City in the Champions League earlier in the season.
The Mirror claim that Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs who’ve been showing a keen interest in luring the full-back south of the border to the Premier League this summer in a deal that could be worth around £17m.
Tierney has now admitted that the speculation linking him with the likes of Chelsea and United is flattering but insists he’s happy at Celtic Park. He’s quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“It’s flattering. I don’t bother about it too much.
“My pals text me but I think it would play more in your head if you weren’t happy at a club. I’m really happy at Celtic, which is good.
“I’ve seen the screenshots but it is just a story and I’m just concentrating on Celtic,”
Antonio Conte is expected to bring in another left sided defender to compete with Marcos Alonso as they prepare for their return to the Champions League next season and Tierney is seemingly on the Chelsea bosses radar.
United boss Jose Mourinho is also on the look out for a new left-back amid on-going doubts over the future of Luke Shaw and Tierney would be a direct replacement should the former Southampton youngster leave Old Trafford this summer.
It’s going to be interesting to see how things develop but despite the teenagers insistence that he’s happy at Celtic, I think he may find it difficult to resist if the likes of Chelsea or United come calling over the coming weeks.
The price-tag being reported shouldn’t be a problem for either club and he looks to have a huge future ahead of him so I think Tierney would be an excellent signing for Chelsea or United if they were to get a deal agreed.
