Liverpool Star To Step-Up Injury Comeback Next Week + Henderson Update

Jurgen Klopp has offered an update on the fitness of Jordan Henderson while Sadio Mane has confirmed he’s due to step-up his rehabilitation from a knee injury next week.
Henderson has endured a difficult campaign as he’s been on the sidelines since February 11th after suffering a foot injury during the win over Tottenham at Anfield.
The Reds skipper has struggled to recover from the injury over the past three months and there’s no doubt Liverpool have missed his leadership and tenacity in the middle of the park.
Klopp has admitted he still has no idea when Henderson will return as they need to be patient with the injury but due to the midfielders high fitness levels, he will be available for selection as soon as he’s given the go-ahead by the clubs doctors.
When asked whether Henderson will play again this season, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“It is too early to say. Next season is the latest moment, of course, but anything can happen. We stay positive because he is strong. The moment someone gives him the green light he will be back in a second because of his attitude and character.
“I am not thinking about the start of pre-season but that would be the latest moment he is back. We have not made a final judgment for this season.
“We don’t know if he will back tomorrow in training or next week but because it is Jordan and he has a really high fitness level, even if it is just swimming, we know we can think about him immediately when he is ready.”
“This is the kind of issue where you have to wait. That is how the body is sometimes. Jordan can manage really well. It was the medical department that said he has to rest. We still have to wait, that is all.”
Given that Liverpool only have two games left to play this season, it’s highly unlikely that Henderson will feature before the end of the campaign so his main focus should be to get himself 100% fit for pre-season.
Another one of Liverpool’s main injury concerns is Sadio Mane as the attacker saw his season ended after being forced to have surgery on a knee ligament injury sustained during the Merseyside derby against Everton on April 1st.
Mane had been enjoying a superb debut season at Anfield having scored 13 goals in his 29 appearances following a move from Southampton last summer and it led to him scooping a double at the LFC Players’ Awards last night.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the event, Mane confirmed that he’s due to step-up his rehabilitation programme by running again at Melwood next week.
“I am getting better and I want to thank all of the physios for doing a great job – not just with me, they’re always doing a great job.
“Hopefully next week I will start running, jogging, so I am happy and looking forward to it.”
Liverpool have struggled without the Senegal international as they’ve dropped points in three of the six games he’s missed since suffering his injury over five weeks ago.
However, the Reds are still in pole position to secure a top four finish so Mane will be looking to get himself fit so he can play in the Champions League next season.
