Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Tammy Abraham….
Arsenal are plotting an audacious swoop on Chelsea with Arsene Wenger looking to lure youngster Tammy Abraham away from Stamford Bridge this summer, according to The Sun.
Wenger’s future at the Emirates is still in doubt as his contract is due to expire next month but the Frenchman is fully expected to sign an extension and oversee an overhaul of his squad this summer.
With the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud all being linked with moves away from Arsenal, Wenger in the market for attacking reinforcements and it looks as though he’s got a shock target in mind.
While most Gooners are hoping the clubs splashes out on a big-name striker, The Sun claims that Wenger has set his sights on luring youngster Abraham away from Chelsea.
The 19-year-old has been with the Blues his entire career having progressed through the youth system but he’s struggled to force his way in to the first team set-up having made just two senior appearances so far.
Abraham has just enjoyed an excellent season out on loan at Bristol City where he scored 26 times in 48 appearances in all competitions, despite the club finishing way down in 17th position in the Championship table.
The Sun claim that the prolific teenager wants assurances from Antonio Conte that he’ll be part of his first team squad next season or he’ll look for a way out of Stamford Bridge this summer.
And the paper says Arsenal are ready to pounce with Wenger understood to be confident he can convince Abraham to leave Chelsea and make what would be a controversial move across London.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops as Chelsea are being linked with several top name strikers so Abraham could find regular action hard to come by in west London next season.
Arsenal would be getting their hands on one of England’s best young strikers if they could somehow get a deal agreed, however, I personally don’t think Chelsea will agree to do business with their rivals and will instead look to send Abraham out on loan again this summer.
