By on May 21, 2017

Liverpool booked their return to the Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield this afternoon.

The Reds struggled to create clear-cut chances after dominating the first half but finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time as Gini Wijnaldum fired home at the near post following a lovely link-up with Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp’s men then doubled their advantage shortly after half time when Philippe Coutinho curled home a superb free-kick from 20 yards out.

Any nerves about a late Middlesbrough comeback were extinguished when Adam Lallana made it 3-0 in the 56th minute with a neat finish following a swift break away from the home side.

The win ensures Liverpool finish fourth in the Premier League table – one point above Arsenal – and books their place in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
