By on May 24, 2017

Manchester United won the Europa League and secured qualification to next seasons Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Ajax in Stockholm this evening.

United started brightly and opened the scoring in the 18th minute in fortuitous circumstances as Paul Pogba’s left-footed effort took a heavy deflection to find its way in to the back of the net for 0-1.

Jose Mourinho’s men continued to control the game and they doubled their lead shortly after half-time when Henrikh Mkhitaryan acrobatically made it 2-0 from close range.

Ajax saw a lot of possession but struggled to create clear cut chances so United eased their way to a relatively comfortable 2-0 win to win the Europa League for the first time in their history.

Importantly, United have now also secured their place in the group stages of the Champions League next season.
