Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea and Manchester United are linked with Ivan Perisic….
Chelsea are ready to try and hijack Manchester United’s attempts to sign Ivan Perisic after the Red Devils tabled an opening £36m bid for the Inter Milan attacker, according to Sky Sports News.
Perisic joined Inter from Wolfsburg in 2015 and has been enjoying a fine season that’s seen him score 10 goals and provide a further 10 assists for a struggling side that’s languishing down in seventh place in the Serie A table.
The Croatian international has been strongly linked with a move this summer as Inter are expected to overhaul their squad and it looks like they are prepared to cash-in on Perisic to help fund their transfer plans.
Sky Sports News claim that Manchester United have made the first move to try and land the 28-year-old after testing Inter’s resolve with an opening £36m offer.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for a busy summer as he looks to try and build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League and Champions League next season and it appears Perisic is on his radar.
The attacker is predominantly played on the left wing but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the forward positions so he’d be a very useful player in the United squad if they could get a deal agreed.
However, it seems that’s still a long way from happening as Sky Sports News not only claim that Inter are demanding as much as £52m for Perisic but Chelsea have also now expressed their interest in signing the attacker.
The news outlet cites Sky Italia as the source of the information while the Daily Mail are also reporting that Chelsea have lodged an enquiry over a deal to sign the Croatian this summer.
Antonio Conte led the Blues to their fifth Premier League title in his first season in charge but he still needs to further strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and Perisic would give the Italian another top class option in attack.
So it looks as though two of England’s biggest clubs are now set to battle-it-out over the Croatian star and I think Perisic would be an excellent signing if either Chelsea or United could get a deal agreed this summer.
