Arsenal have beaten off competition from Everton and Southampton to land 20-goal striker Henry Onyekuru after agreeing a £7m deal with KAS Eupen, according to a report in The Sun.

Onyekuru has just come off the back of a superb campaign that saw him score 20 league goals to finish as the Belgian top flights leading goal-scorer.

The 19-year-old’s potential caught the attention of several Premier League clubs with Sky Sports News reporting earlier this month that Arsenal, Everton and Southampton were all showing a keen interest.

The news outlet claimed that Arsenal were leading the race for Onyekuru’s signature after opening talks with KAS Eupen about a deal that would see them trigger the strikers £7m release clause.

It looks as though a deal is now on the verge of completion as The Sun are citing a report from Soccer Nigeria that claims Arsenal have now agreed terms to sign the exciting forward this summer.

Arsene Wenger is expected to sign a new two-year contract to extend his stay at the Emirates after winning his seventh FA Cup at the weekend and it looks as though he’s looking to get his transfer business done swiftly.

A new forward is on the agenda as the future’s of Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all in doubt and it appears Onyekuru is on the Frenchman’s radar.

Lucas Perez Arsenal

The Nigerian International is a huge talent but he’s nowhere near Sanchez’s level so I personally think Wenger is buying Onyekuru as a replacement for Perez – if these reports are accurate.

The teenager is a versatile forward who’s capable of playing anywhere across the attack including up front or on the wings so he would be a useful addition to the Gunners squad.

It will obviously be a big jump in quality from Belgian football to the Premier League but he has time on his side to develop further under the tutelage of Wenger so hopefully he’ll turn out to be a good signing if a deal ends up going through.
