Chelsea are ready to try and hijack Arsenal and Manchester United’s attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe after making contact with the Monaco striker about a summer move, according to reports in France via Football London.
Mbappe has just come off the back of a breakthrough campaign that saw him score 26 goals and provide a further 14 assists in all competition to help Monaco land their first Ligue 1 title since 2000.
The 18-year-old is now the hottest property in world football with a whole host of top clubs being credited with an interest including several from here in the Premier League.
The Metro reported at the start of the week that Manchester United had lodged a £113m offer for Mbappe’s services as Jose Mourinho looks to find himself a top class striker this summer after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Mirror then reported that having seen their opening £87m offer rejected, Arsenal were ready to table an improved £120m bid for Mbappe after Arsene Wenger publicly confirmed his interest in signing the striker.
However, it looks as though Arsenal and United will now face fresh competition as Football London are citing a report coming from Le10 Sport that claims Chelsea have made their move to land the teenager.
The French outlet says the Blues have already been in touch with Mbappe’s camp to register their interest and Antonio Conte has arranged to hold talks with the striker after France’s friendly with England next week.
Conte is in the market for a new striker after telling Diego Costa he’s no longer needed at the club and it looks as though the Premier League champions are keen on landing Mbappe.
We’ll have to wait and see how this all develops but it’s going to be fascinating to see where the French international ends up this summer if he does decide to leave Monaco.
The French champions are doing all they can to hang on to the youngster and it may even take an offer in excess of £120m to persuade them to sell but Mbappe would be a sensational signing so I’d love to see him come to England this summer.
