Player To Undergo Medical Next Week After Man Utd Confirm £30.7m Deal

Victor Lindelof will undergo his medical next week after Manchester United confirmed a deal is in place to sign the centre-back from Benfica this summer

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd have agreed a deal to sign Victor Lindelof…

Victor Lindelof will undergo his medical next week after Manchester United confirmed a deal is in place to sign the centre-back from Benfica this summer, according to the Mirror.

Jose Mourinho is expected to be extremely active in the summer transfer window as he looks to create a squad capable of challenging for top honours next season and he’s kicked off his plans by strengthening his defence.

Widespread reports last week suggested that United had renewed their interest in signing Lindelof and the Red Devils confirmed late on Saturday night that a deal has now been agreed with Benfica.

A statement on ManUtd.com read:

“Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms.”

No precise details on the deal have been announced as yet but the Mirror cite a report from the Daily Record that says United will pay an initial £30.7m up front with further payments due in performance-based add ons.

The 22-year-old is currently away on international duty with the Sweden squad but the newspaper claims he will undergo his medical next week, presumably after the World Cup qualifier against Norway next Tuesday night.

Personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue so it looks as though United are set to unveil their first signing of the summer and I think Lindelof will prove to be an excellent piece of business.

He’s developed in to one of the best central defenders in Portuguese football since joining Benfica from Vasteras in 2011 and I think he has the potential to form a rock solid partnership with Eric Bailly.

However, Lindelof’s imminent arrival will cast further doubt over the future of Chris Smalling with the England centre-back tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer.
