Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are set to make a fresh bid for Kylian Mbappe….
Arsenal are set to test Monaco’s resolve with a fresh bid for Kylian Mbappe that will see Arsene Wenger offer £100m plus Olivier Giroud in exchange for the striker, according to a report in The Sun.
Mbappe has just come off the back of a superb campaign that saw him score 26 goals and provide 14 assists in all competitions to help Monaco land their first Ligue 1 title since 2000.
The 18-year-old is now considered as one of the hottest properties in world football with a number of Premier League clubs joining the likes of Real Madrid in chasing the teen sensation this summer.
The Metro reported earlier in the month that Manchester United had failed with an opening £113m offer for Mbappe as Jose Mourinho looks to buy a top class striker this summer after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Football London then cited a report coming from French outlet Le10 Sport that claimed Chelsea had joined the chase after Antonio Conte arranged to hold talks with Mbappe this week about a move to Stamford Bridge.
However, it looks like Arsenal are ready to step-up their interest again as The Sun are covering a report from L’Equipe today that says Wenger is set to make a fresh offer after seeing his initial £87m bid rejected.
The newspaper claims Arsenal will test Monaco’s resolve by offering £100m in cash plus Giroud in a player-plus-cash swap deal in exchange for Mbappe’s services.
Giroud is being tipped to leave the Emirates after making just 11 Premier League starts last season and it seems Wenger is prepared to use him as bait to try and seal a deal for Mbappe this summer.
Despite Real Madrid being the favourites and the fact Arsenal can’t offer Champions League football, The Sun says Wenger is increasingly confident he’ll be able to persuade the French international to come to north London.
We’ll have to wait for further developments and see how Monaco respond if Arsenal do submit this reported bid but it’s going to be fascinating to see where Mbappe ends up if he does leave France.
I’m sure if Monaco are prepared to cash-in this summer then the likes of Chelsea, United and Madrid are going to do all they can to sign him so it’s going to be extremely difficult for Arsenal to win the race for his signature.
