Man Utd Remain In Talks With £90m Striker As Chelsea Deal Reports Are Denied

Manchester United are still in contact with Romelu Lukaku’s agent over a potential move after talk of a ‘done deal’ between the striker and Chelsea were denied

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Romelu Lukaku….

Manchester United are still in contact with Romelu Lukaku’s agent over a potential move after talk of a ‘done deal’ between the £90m-rated Everton striker and Chelsea were denied, according to the Mirror.

Lukaku enhanced his reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League after scoring 26 goals for Everton last season but he’s been tipped for a  move this summer after turning down the chance to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.

The 24-year-old has attracted plenty of interest with Man Utd and Chelsea among those to be strongly linked in recent weeks but the Independent reported at the start of the month that Lukaku had set his heart on a return to west London.

The Times [via the Liverpool Echo] then reported that Chelsea had opened formal negotiations with Everton and were hoping to get a £70m deal agreed with the striker being offered a contract worth £200,000-a-week.

It led to speculation suggesting that it was just a matter of time before Lukaku would be returning to Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte looks to bring in a new striker after informing Diego Costa he isn’t in his plans for next season.

However, it looks as though that talk is a little premature as the Mirror claim that sources close to Lukaku are adamant that no deal with Chelsea is close to completion.

The newspaper says that while Chelsea are still favourites, Man Utd are very much in the running to sign the Belgian international and remain in contact with Lukaku’s agent, Mino Raiola, about a potential move to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a top class striker after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and while United have been linked with Alvaro Morata recently, it appears they are still in the hunt for Lukaku.

However, Chelsea and United will have to dig deep if they do want to sign the player as the Mirror suggest Everton are determined to drive a hard bargain and will demand around £90m for his signature this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the summer but in the end I think we’ll see Lukaku leave Everton and beleive he’d be a superb addition for either Chelsea or United.
