Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Arsenal over the signing of Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe if the French sensation decides on a move to England this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Mbappe has become the most sought after player in the summer transfer window after scoring 24 goals to help fire Monaco to their first Ligue 1 title since 2000.
The 18-year-old has attracted interest from all over Europe but Football London reported earlier today that Arsenal were increasingly confident of beating Real Madrid to the signing of the teenage star.
The media outlet claims that Arsene Wenger has spoken personally with Mbappe and promised him a starring role up front with the Gunners now ready to test Monaco’s resolve with a whopping offer worth in excess of £118m.
Madrid remain the bookmakers favourites and while it will be difficult for any player to turn down the Champions League winners, Mbappe has made it clear his development is more important than anything else right now.
It’s that sentiment that has given Arsenal encouragement they could pull off a sensational coup but the north Londoners will face some stiff competition if Mbappe does decide to come to the Premier League.
The Telegraph claim that Liverpool are ready to hijack Arsenal’s attempts to snare Mbappe with Jurgen Klopp determined to do all he can to lure the French youngster to Anfield if he chooses to continue his career in England this summer.
The newspaper says that while a striker isn’t a priority for Klopp, the German coach doesn’t want to miss out on Mbappe if he’s available and Liverpool are prepared to spend big to land the youngster after missing out on his signature last summer.
It would be a fascinating battle between two of England’s biggest clubs and while Arsenal will be confident due to Wenger’s close relationship with the player and his family, Liverpool are able to offer Mbappe Champions League football next season.
The teenager would also be guaranteed regular first team football and the chance to develop his game without the pressure that comes with playing at a club like Real Madrid, so Mbappe may be tempted by the chance to come to England this summer.
Let’s see how things develop over the coming days as I’m sure there will be plenty of twists and turns left in this story but it would be sensational to see Mbappe plying his trade in the Premier League so let’s pray he opts to come to these shores.
