January Transfer Window: A Couple Of Players Arsenal Should Buy

As we expected , Le Boss has come out and squashed any hopes of a major signing during this transfer window. According to Arsene, he would only be looking at another centerback should TV5 failed to recover from his injury.

Although I expected this from the gaffer, I had hoped that HE would be looking to bring in another centerback even if Vermaelen returns in a couple of weeks. The defense has been our achilles heel throughout last season and this year with no sign that the two players he brought in the summer can be the permanent solution to the problem. We are on the cusp of something great with this team. If we can plug the holes in defense then we will really go places.

Firstly, just go and get Gary Cahill. Owen Coyle is resigned to losing him so what are we waiting for? Sure he would cost about £15 – £18 million pounds but didn’t we pay about £10 million for Koscielny and Cahill is definitely better than the Frenchman.

Secondly, get Marcus Sketelenburg over from Ajax. Fabianski has improved over the last few months but  can he really be the answer to our goalkeeping woes? I don’t think so. Wigan’s equalizer proved that we need a more commanding goalkeeper in that position. Of course there are other candidates in this department but I fancy the Dutchman and he would not cost a bomb.

Other than the possibility of these two additions, the team is very well equipped to handle the rigours of challenging on four fronts.

Agreed, although I think that Koscielny, while not up to the job, is not as bad as he’s being made out by some fans.

(Also, sorry to be pedantic but spelling: Stekelenburg).

    Hi Kid,
May i ask you a question if you wouldn’t mind? How many times have you seen Sketelenburg play?Just go and get Gary Cahill?LOL the way you are saying it seems like he is some gadget on the market, and even if we do buy him and si Verminator is back aren’t we in for trouble? What would you do with DJ?put him on the bench and give him mickey mouse cup to play?

Koscielny done quite well for me considering he just start playing top plight football. We have 2 talented keepers who have not reached the highest level, but there’s very good competition, plus both are Polish. They can only get better. We dont need to buy a CB had Nordtveit stayed.

goonertoglory : Double that and i am sure Wenger dint plan to rush him in straight away, but the best part of defense this season has been how immense DJ has been..And if we get Cahill or mertersacker i dont see who ll be benched and how ll they adopt to our style of play.. I am more comfortable with what we have now

@swikrath : Agree with you that Djorou has been a revelation this season (apart from Nasri, of course). If he continues this kind of form, he could be the 1st choice CB ahead of Vermaelen, who knows? Yeah, not only Cahill or Mertesacker, even Samba wouldnt want to be benched so they might be unsettled. I think we just need a CB to rotate in case on injury or suspension. Yes, the worst case scenario is to put Song playing as CB but I dont think Wenger would want to overload him while he’s playing very well now as DM.

If some of our so called supporters are in Wenger’s shoe, they will just keep spending recklessly like Manchini.
If we bring in Cahill or Mertesacker, what will happen to Djorou and Kos when Vermelen come back from injury? How do you build a team and their confidence if you continue bringing in players to come and bench them? Or do you spend 15m pounds on a player to come and sit on the bench?
All we need is just a cover CB in case anything happen to one of our vast improving Djorou or Kos. These guys have been doing very well together and we should support them rather than dis-organising them with suggestions of who should come in and replace them.

What do kids actually know about the game as you have no clue what you,re talking about. Our previous defensive frailties were due to three clowns and master ball watchers namely,Campbell,Gallas and Silvestre yet the first person to get blamed is the poor goalie, against Wigan another master ball watcher Sagna couldn,t jump high enough to head the ball away resulting in a header across the penalty area and an own goal,so stick to watching kids matches ,kid ?

Samaba, Cahill? If they are that good, how come they have spent their entire career at mid-to lower table teams? Why can’ we just trust the manager and get behind who we have?
