Arsenal To Table £50m Attacker Bid Plus Wenger Eyes Move For Key Liverpool Target

Arsenal are set to table an improved offer worth up to £50m for Monaco star Thomas Lemar and are also considering a bid for Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal eye two more signings….

Arsenal are set to table an improved offer worth up to £50m for Monaco star Thomas Lemar and are also considering a bid for key Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger has already been busy in the summer window after breaking their club record to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette while left-back Sead Kolasinac was snapped-up on a free transfer from Schalke.

However, the Arsenal boss is still looking to further strengthen his squad after missing out on the top four last season and it seems he’s determined to bring in another attacker this summer.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for Lemar in recent weeks and The Sun reported yesterday that Arsenal had agreed personal terms with the attacker worth around £90,000-a-week.

The fee remains a major sticking point but the Daily Mail claim today that after seeing a £40m offer rejected by Monaco Arsenal are set to submit an improved bid worth £45m rising to £50m including add ons.

Wenger is understood to be determined to sign the talented French international and the newspaper indicates that the new offer will go in this week – although it remains to be seen whether Monaco will accept this time.

Lemar would be an exciting signing for Arsenal if they could get a deal agreed as the 21-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season.

While Wenger is desperate to add to his attack this summer, the Arsenal boss could also strengthen his defensive options even further and the Daily Mail claim the north Londoners could bid for Virgil van Dijk after making him a prime target.

Van Dijk was strongly linked a move to Liverpool but the Reds were forced to issue a public apology after Southampton complained to the FA about this pursuit of the defender.

There has been speculation suggesting van Dijk is still holding out for a move to Anfield but it seems Arsenal could look to try and lure the Dutch international to north London if Wenger decides to make his interest official.

The Gunners have a wealth of centre-back options already on their books but Calum Chambers is being tipped to leave, Gabriel is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury while Laurent Koscielny has been plagued by Achilles issues.

Therefore, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if Wenger decided to formalise his interest in van Dijk and the 25-year-old would be a superb signing for Arsenal if they could pull it off but I still have a sneaky feeling he might end up at Liverpool.
