Man Utd In Talks To Sign £70m Star But Club Would Rather Sell To Chelsea
Manchester United are locked in negotiations to sign £70m-rated midfielder James Rodriguez but Real Madrid would rather do business with Chelsea
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of James Rodriguez…
Manchester United are locked in negotiations to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez as Jose Mourinho looks to get another one over former club Chelsea, according to a report in the Express.
Rodriguez earned a big-money move to Madrid after starring at the 2014 World Cup but the midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Bernabeu in recent years.
The Colombian international started just 13 league games last season and was left out of the entire squad for the Champions League final win over Juventus so understandably he’s been tipped for a move this summer.
The 25-year-old is hoping to have his future resolved swiftly as Madrid are due to fly-out on their pre-season tour of the USA today and it seems the midfielder could be heading to the Premier League.
The Express are citing a report coming from the Independent that claims Man Utd are looking to beat Chelsea to Rodriguez’s signature and are in talks with Madrid over a potential deal.
Wayne Rooney sealed a move back to Everton at the weekend and the newspaper suggests that Mourinho has identified Rodriguez as the man he wants to replace the former England skipper.
Madrid reportedly want around £70m for the South American but the Express suggest United are hoping to get a deal agreed for less than the £62m the Spaniard’s paid Monaco three years ago.
If Mourinho was successful in his pursuit, Rodriguez would become United’s third major signing of the summer with Victor Lindelof already signed from Benfica while Romelu Lukaku is on the verge of a move from Everton.
However, United may find it difficult to get a deal agreed with Madrid as the Daily Star are reporting that the La Liga champions would prefer to sell Rodriguez to Chelsea this summer.
United and Madrid have a long history of acrimonious transfer dealings – most recently over Alvaro Morata and David De Gea – and it seems Florentino Perez is reluctant to do business with the Manchester giants for Rodriguez.
This could work in Chelsea’s favour as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League and Rodriguez would be a superb addition to the squad if the Blues could win the race for his signature.
