Arsenal Make Enquiry For Senegal Star As Wenger Confirms He Wants More Signings

Arsenal have lodged a formal enquiry over the availability of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as Arsene Wenger looks to further strengthen his squad

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Kalidou Koulibaly…

Arsenal have lodged a formal enquiry over the availability of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as Arsene Wenger looks to further strengthen his squad this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.

Koulibaly has developed in to a top centre-back since joining Napoli from Genk in 2014 with his consistent displays at the back helping his club secure regular football in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League last summer but he decided to remain in Naples and sign a new long-term contract tying him to the club until 2021.

However, that hasn’t put off Wenger as the Daily Star are citing a report from TMW that claims Arsenal have now made a formal enquiry over a potential deal to sign Koulibaly this summer.

The boss has already splashed out on striker Alexandre Lacazette and left-back Sead Kolasinac but he’s confirmed he’s still in the market for further signings as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next season.

Wenger told Arsenal.com:

“We are still open to strengthening our team with players coming from outside.

“We are very active on the transfer market and have already realised two incomings. We have to keep a balance as well, that you don’t destabilise the team too much by bringing in too many players.

“But we are still active on the transfer market so let’s see what kind of opportunities we can find.”

A new centre-back appears to be on the agenda as Per Mertesacker is set to retire next summer, Laurent Koscielny is plagued by Achilles issues while Calum Chambers has been made available for transfer this summer.

Koulibaly would be an excellent signing if we could get a deal agreed as I think the Senegal international has all the attributes needed to be a real star here in the Premier League.

However, while his agent hinted last month that Koulibaly could be on the move this summer, it’s not going to be easy to persuade Napoli to cash-in as the Daily Star say they have no interest in selling any time soon so a deal looks unlikely.
