Arsenal & Liverpool Linked With Swoop For World Class £62m Striker
Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with moves for Karim Benzema as Real Madrid close-in on a world record swoop for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Karim Benzema is linked with Arsenal and Liverpool….
Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with moves for Karim Benzema as Real Madrid close-in on a world record swoop for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, according to reports in Spain via the Express.
Spanish outlet Marca claim Madrid have agreed a stunning £161m deal with the French champions to sign Mbappe this summer with the teenager set to sign a six-year contract at the Bernabeu.
Madrid have already sold Alvaro Morata to Chelsea but the Express claim Zinedine Zidane want’s Mbappe to spearhead his attack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale next season.
That would leave Benzema out in the cold and the newspaper is citing a report from Don Balon that claims the French international will be sold once Madrid wrap-up their deal for Mbappe.
The Spanish publication suggests that Arsenal or Liverpool could be the beneficiaries as they believe the English duo will be keen to sign Benzema if he comes on the market.
Arsene Wenger is looking to further strengthen his squad and he may need to sign another attacker if the north Londoners are forced to sell Alexis Sanchez this summer.
The Gunners boss is a long-term admirer of Benzema and Arsenal have been linked with the player in the past so they may finally be able to lure him to the Emirates – although it’s difficult to see where he’d fit in considering they recently signed Alexandre Lacazette.
Liverpool could therefore be the most realistic destination as Jurgen Klopp could do with another world class option up front to compete with Roberto Firmino amid on-going doubts over the fitness of Daniel Sturridge.
The Merseysiders could also offer Benzema Champions League football but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be prepared to meet Madrid’s asking price – which Diario Gol claim would be set at £62m.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Benzema would be an excellent signing for Liverpool, or indeed Arsenal, and I’d love to see the 29-year-old finally plying his trade here in the Premier League.
