Chelsea Ready To Submit Offer For £25m-Rated Star As Conte Eyes Fifth Signing

Antonio Conte is to ask Chelsea chiefs to launch a bid to sign £25m-rated Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater this summer, according to reports

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Danny Drinkwater…

Antonio Conte is to ask Chelsea chiefs to launch a bid to sign £25m-rated Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Conte has already been extremely active in the transfer market having signed four new faces in goalkeeper Willy Caballero, centre-back Antonio Rudiger, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and striker Alvaro Morata.

However, the Blues boss knows he needs further reinforcements if Chelsea are to compete on all fronts ahead of their return to the Champions League this coming season.

A new central midfielder is on the agenda following Nemanja Matic’s move to Manchester United and TeamTalk are citing a report from the Daily Mail that claims Chelsea have set their sights on Drinkwater.

The 27-year-old is a product of Man Utd’s youth academy but has made his name since joining Leicester City in 2012 as he played his part in helping the Foxes secure a stunning Premier League title win in 2015/16.

The midfielder has also been recognised at international level after breaking into the England set-up and it appears he’s now being lined-up for a big-money move to the defending league champions.

TeamTalk’s report says Conte is now pressing his Chelsea bosses to launch a formal offer to sign Drinkwater and it’s believed they could persuade Leicester to cash-in if a bid of £25m was put on the table.

That seems like a very reasonable fee in today’s market for an England international who still has three years left to run on his contract so I think it would be great business by Chelsea if they could get a deal agreed.

Drinkwater has plenty of experience in the Premier League and would provide good cover for the likes of Bakayoko and Kante in the middle of the park – plus he’ll help boost their homegrown quota.
