Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed he’s ready to ‘fight’ for the signature of Gareth Bale if the Real Madrid attacker doesn’t start against them tomorrow night, according to Sky Sports.

Bale’s future at the Bernabeu has been called in to serious question this summer with the Express reporting last week that Zinedine Zidane may cash-in on the attacker in order to help fund their swoop for Kylian Mbappe.

Madrid are being touted as the strong favourites to sign the Monaco sensation and Bale is the most likely to be sacrificed in order to make room for the French international teenager.

The Welsh international endured a frustrating campaign last season as injury restricted him to just 26 starts and he was left on the bench for the Champions League final win over Juventus.

It’s suggested that Madrid are concerned about the 28-year-old’s fitness so are ready to cash-in this summer with the Express claiming that United and Chelsea have held preliminary talks about a potential £90m deal.

Antonio Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad ahead of the next season and the Blues have the financial fire-power to land the Welsh super-star if he is on the market.

However, Chelsea will face some stiff competition as Mourinho has now confirmed that he’s ready to ‘fight’ for Bale’s signature if the former Tottenham attacker is left out of Zidane’s starting eleven tomorrow night.

Madrid take on United in the UEFA Super Cup in Macedonia on Tuesday and Mourinho believes that if Bale doesn’t start then he’d be interested in signing him as it’s a sure sign he’s not in Zidane’s plans for the upcoming season.

Mourinho is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:

“If he’s playing tomorrow, well, no I wouldn’t think of that possibility of signing on (Bale). If he is playing tomorrow, it is because he is in the coach’s plans and in the club’s plans and because he also has that ambition to continue in Real Madrid.

“So I haven’t even thought of the possibility of signing him on our team.

“If he’s not in the club’s plans, if what you are writing right now is true – I am not sure whether it is or not – that the arrival of another player (would) perhaps (mean) Gareth would be on his way out.

“If he is on his way out of Real Madrid, well, I’ll try to be waiting for him on the other side and try to fight with other coaches that would also like to have him on his team.

“But I think that if he plays tomorrow, it is probably the best confirmation that they’ll keep counting on him during the season.”

Some have suggested that this is just mind games by Mourinho ahead of the final but it’s certainly going to be interesting to see if Bale does start or is left on the bench by Zidane.

If he’s axed, then we should expect the speculation to intensify over the coming days and obviously Bale would be a sensational signing if either United or Chelsea were able to lure him back to the Premier League.

The Welshman has continued to forge a reputation as one of the best attackers in Europe during his four years in Spain as he’s scored 67 goals and provided 51 assists in 149 games to help Madrid win 3 Champions League’s and a La Liga title.
