Arsenal Handed Huge Boost In Pursuit Of £50m Star As Wenger Eyes 3rd Signing

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez after Roma confirmed they have pulled out of the running for his signature

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are handed a boost in their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez…

Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Leicester City’s £50m-rated attacker Riyad Mahrez after Roma confirmed they have pulled out of the running for his signature, according to the Metro.

Mahrez is expected to leave the King Power this summer after handing in a transfer request at the end of last season and he’s attracted interest from a number of top European clubs.

Arsenal have once again been tracking the Algerian international with the Metro claiming that Mahrez is Arsene Wenger’s fall-back option if he can’t secure a deal for top target Thomas Lemar.

We’ve been strongly linked with the French international all summer but with Monaco insisting the 21-year-old won’t be sold at any price, Mahrez seemed like a viable alternative.

AS Roma have also been chasing the 26-year-old in recent weeks but the report suggests that the Italian giants have now pulled out of the running for Mahrez’s signature as Leicester are demanding £50m after rejecting their latest £31.7m bid.

Roma’s sporting director Monchi has now confirmed the club will turn their attention to other targets after failing to agree a deal for Mahrez. He’s quoted as saying by the Metro:

‘I’m optimistic by nature, but the truth is that Roma did everything possible to buy the player,’

‘He would have been the most expensive player in Roma’s history. But up until now we haven’t received any positive feedback from the other side.

‘The offer we made was an important one, but the priority isn’t just Mahrez because we’ve done everything necessary and now we’re looking around for other players.’

This news will come as a major boost to Wenger as Arsenal will now face less competition for Mahrez if the boss decides to give up on Lemar and focus his attention on the Foxes attacker.

There is no doubt we need to further strengthen the squad if we’re to be considered genuine title contenders as we’ve only brought in two new additions so far this summer and another attacker appears to be on the agenda.

Lemar would be a hugely exciting signing but it looks like Monaco are playing hardball so a deal for Mahrez could be more straight-forward and he’d also be an excellent addition to the squad if we could lure him to the Emirates.
