Chelsea Trump Liverpool With £35m Bid For 23-Year-Old Star
Chelsea have trumped Liverpool after submitting an improved £35m offer for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to reports
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea increase their offer for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain….
Chelsea have trumped Liverpool after submitting an improved £35m offer for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to the Daily Star.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has just one year remaining on his current contract and his future at the Emirates is in serious doubt as he’s yet to find an agreement with the Gunners over an extension.
The 23-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from fellow Premier League clubs with the Daily Star claiming that Chelsea and Liverpool have both indicated their willingness to pay £25m for the contract rebel.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for another midfielder and may be viewing Oxlade-Chamberlain as an alternative target after failing to persuade RB Leipzig to sell Naby Keita.
However, it looks as though Liverpool could be beaten to the punch as the Daily Star claim that after seeing their initial £25m bid rejected by Arsenal, Chelsea have now tabled an improved £35m offer for The Ox.
Arsene Wenger has publicly insisted that the England international won’t be sold even if he doesn’t sign an extension but £35m for a player inside the final year of his deal could be tempting for the Gunners boss.
The newspaper says that Oxlade-Chamberlain is also keen on the idea of playing for Chelsea as they are able to offer him Champions League football as well as meet his £120,000-a-week wage demands.
Antonio Conte has vented his frustration at the lack of signings this summer, despite securing four players so far, as the Blues boss knows he needs a much stronger squad if Chelsea are to compete on all fronts.
Oxlade-Chamberlain would be an excellent addition for the west Londoners as he’d be able to offer competition for Victor Moses in the right wing-back role and provide another option in central midfield – two areas Conte is keen to strengthen.
We’ll have to wait and see how Arsenal respond to Chelsea’s latest offer but I have a feeling the Gunners will stand firm so the Blues may have to dig a little deeper if they want to get a deal agreed for the versatile midfielder.
