Liverpool have told Barcelona they are willing to sell Philippe Coutinho for £137m and the playmaker is already believed to have agreed personal terms with the La Liga giants, according to the Daily Record.

Coutinho has been targetted by Barcelona as the ideal replacement for Neymar following his world record move to Paris Saint-Germain but Liverpool were confident of keeping hold of the player as he signed a new long-term contract in January.

However, the 25-year-old stunned Liverpool after handing in a formal transfer request via email yesterday just minutes after the clubs owners, FSG, had issued a statement saying the playmaker would not be sold this summer.

Details have since been leaked to the media stating how Coutinho feels he’s been forced to submit a transfer request after unsuccessful attempts to find an amicable solution and we’ve even seen reports suggesting the player has a strained relationship with Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have publicly insisted they won’t do business at any price but the Daily Record claim things are very different behind the scenes as they say the Reds informed Barcelona during talks last week that they would sell if their £137m (€150m) valuation was met.

The newspaper says Barca have already agreed personal terms with Coutinho but saw their latest £91m (€100m) offer rejected by Liverpool so it seems they are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to get a deal agreed.

If this report is accurate then it seems Liverpool are willing to do business over Coutinho but they clearly aren’t going to make his exit easy as the situation within the club has been described in many papers as ‘all out war’.

The Daily Record say Klopp is looking to make an example of Coutinho by deliberately frustrating the player’s attempts to engineer a move to Barcelona but Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims the player has already decided he doesn’t want to play for the club again.

The ultimate decision will come down to FSG and it’s going to be interesting to see how they play things from here. Coutinho clearly wants out and is doing all he can to force a move but the fact is he’s under a long contract with Liverpool.

The Merseysiders have to decide whether to keep an unhappy player against his will and hope the situation resolves itself once the transfer window is closed or just cash-in now and use the money to buy a player who actually wants to play for the shirt.
