Chelsea Ready To Hijack Man Utd’s Move For £48m International
Chelsea are ready to hijack Manchester United’s swoop for £48m-rated Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic during the closing stages of the transfer window
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are eyeing Ivan Perisic…
Chelsea are ready to hijack Manchester United’s proposed swoop for £48m-rated Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic during the closing stages of the transfer window, according to the Mirror.
Antonio Conte has made it perfectly clear he expects more signings to arrive over the coming weeks as the Blues boss looks to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts this season.
Chelsea had several youngsters on their bench during Saturday’s opening Premier League defeat to Burnley and Conte knows he needs reinforcements if they are to make an impression at home and in the Champions League.
The west Londoners have been linked with several wing-backs and central midfielders in recent weeks but it looks as though Conte is also in the market for another attacker with Perisic now on his radar.
The Croatian international has been strongly linked with a move to Man Utd this summer with the Mirror reporting over the weekend that the Red Devils have reopened talks with Perisic’s agent.
Jose Mourinho has also made no secret of his desire to sign a wide attacker this summer and the newspaper says United are now willing to meet his £48m asking price after seeing two lower offers rejected by Inter.
However, it looks as though United will now face stiff competition as the Mirror are claiming that Chelsea are ready to hijack their attempts to sign Perisic with Conte lining-up a late swoop for the 28-year-old.
Former Inter striker Hernan Crespo talked up a move to Stamford Bridge after suggesting over the weekend that Perisic could end up joining Chelsea over United.
Crespo is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“It’s possible he joins Chelsea – but he plays on the left and on the left you have Eden Hazard, Perisic and Marcos Alonso. Maybe he could come in through the middle or to the right.
“If you put a lot of money down, even Inter will sell him, but they don’t want to sell him.”
We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming days but it would be a huge blow to United if Chelsea were to snatch Perisic from under their noses as he’d be an excellent addition.
The attacker has a hard-working attitude and is a real threat in the final third after scoring 11 goals and setting up a further 12 for his team mates last season so I think he’d be an asset for either Chelsea or indeed United.
