Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool join the chase for Jean-Michael Seri…
Liverpool have followed Arsenal and Tottenham in expressing their interest in signing £34m-rated Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri this summer, according to the Guardian.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he’s now a regular with the Ivory Coast national team.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign last season as he scored seven goals and set-up a further nine for his team mates to help Nice secure a third-placed finish in Ligue 1.
His impressive form has attracted interest from several top clubs this summer as the Daily Star cited a report from L’Equipe earlier this month that claimed Arsenal and Tottenham were tracking the midfielder.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for further reinforcements and the Gunners boss has seemingly earmarked Seri as the man to add some power and drive to his midfield this season.
Mauricio Pochettino has vowed to be active during the closing weeks of the summer as he’s yet to make a single signing so far and Seri would provide the Spurs coach with another top class option in the middle of the park if they won the race for his signature.
However, the Guardian claim that Liverpool have now joined the north London duo in expressing their interest in signing Seri after making contact with Nice to discuss the players availability.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign another central midfielder after failing to persuade RB Leipzig to sell Naby Keita so it looks like the Reds boss has identified Seri as the ideal alternative.
The newspaper says Nice won’t stand in the players way if a club meets his £34m release clause but any potential move will have to wait until after they have played in their Champions League qualifier against Napoli.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but it looks like three of England’s top clubs are ready to do-battle over Seri’s signature and I think he’d would be an excellent signing for whoever ends up buying him.
