Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are eyeing a £120m triple swoop…
Chelsea are set to kick-start a £120m spending spree with a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the Blues look to bring in three new signings before the end of the month, according to the Mirror.
Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to bring in addition reinforcements this summer as he feels the Chelsea squad isn’t strong enough to compete on all fronts this season.
A new right wing-back to compete with Victor Moses has been a priority for months and Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a prime target for the defending Premier League champions.
The 23-year-old excellent in the right wing-back role during the closing stages of last season while The Ox has also been deployed on the left at times by Arsene Wenger so his versatility would be a real asset for Conte.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has just one year remaining on his contract and is no closer to signing an extension so the Mirror claim Chelsea are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £35m bid.
Wenger has said publicly that Oxlade-Chamberlain is not for sale but given that the Gunners also face losing Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for nothing next summer, they may be forced to cash-in on the England international.
Chelsea are also in the market for another centre-back after losing John Terry this summer and the newspaper suggests that Conte is targetting a big-money move for Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch international has been exiled from the Southampton squad after handing in a transfer request and Yahoo Sport claim that Chelsea are in pole position ahead of Liverpool to sign the defender.
The report says Southampton will refuse to do business with the Merseysiders due to their poor conduct earlier in the summer and will reluctantly sell to Chelsea if their £70m valuation is met.
Conte is also desperate to bring in another central midfielder to compete with N’Kolo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas this season and the Mirror claim Danny Drinkwater is the prime target.
The Blues have already seen a £15m bid turned down by Leicester but they are set to go back in with an improved offer as Roman Abramovich gets ready to sanction a £120m spending spree during the latter stages of the window.
We’ll have to wait and see how these proposed deals progress but if Chelsea could secure Oxlade-Chamberlain, Drinkwater and van Dijk over the coming weeks then they’ll have a formidable squad for the forthcoming campaign.
