Manchester United have stepped-up their interest in Ivan Perisic and remain confident of signing the £50m-rated Inter Milan attacker despite interest from Chelsea, according to a report in the Express.
Jose Mourinho has made it clear he’s keen to sign a wide attacker before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and United have been chasing Perisic all summer.
The Red Devils have struggled to agree terms with Inter as the Italians are holding out for around £50m and negotiations between the two clubs stalled after they demanded Anthony Martial be included in any deal [via the Express].
The impasse opened the door for Chelsea and the Mirror reported recently that the Blues were ready to try and hijack United’s proposed deal after Antonio Conte identified Perisic as a potential target.
Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad as he was forced to select several youngsters on the bench for Saturday’s shock opening league defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian coach has primarily been on the look out for wing-backs or midfielder’s but it looks like Conte is also hoping to sign another attacker with Perisic now on his radar.
However, Chelsea’s interest has promoted United to step-up their pursuit of the Croatian international and the Express are citing a report from the Gambling Times that claims Mourinho is now determined not to miss out after his former club made contact with Inter about a potential deal.
The report says United are confident they will eventually reach an agreement with the Serie A giants and will win the race for Perisic’s signature as they’re convinced he wants to move to Old Trafford.
Let’s see how things progress over the coming days but I think Perisic would be the ideal signing for United as he’s a hard working winger so he’d fit in well with Mourinho’s philosophy.
The 28-year-old would also add a much-needed threat in the final third at United as he chipped in with 11 goals and set-up a further 12 for his team-mates last season so I think he’d be a huge success here in England.
